Couture Spring Summer 18 Report
Couture is always a highly expected moment of Paris fashion week. It’s the excellence of fashion where meticulous craftsmanship meets creativity. Although the couture calendar has evolved over the years welcoming more designers offering new perspectives, the headliners remain Chanel, Dior, Jean Paul Gaultier, Givenchy and Valentino. Let’s have a look to the main trends of this season:
Black and White
A classic revisited over and over again but we can not get enough of it, Jean Paul Gaultier and Dior choose to play on the optical effect.
Still in the thematic of black and white, Zuhair Murad, Dior and Jean Paul Gaultier propose a tribal version.
The show girl
Marabou feathers and glitters reminding of the sumptuous attire and over the top lifestyle of the Vegas show girl with a dash of 70’s nostalgia is here explored by Elie Saab, Givenchy, Ralph Russo and with native american accents at Zuhair Murad.
Oversized floral print
The floral pattern, another trend that reborn under different forms every season. Valentino shows us an oversized floral print on retro long gowns which result in an ingenious mix of modernity and tradition. For the most adventurous the alternative is to opt for the bouquet version at Viktor and Rolf and again Valentino.
The Blue Klein a timeless reference, is always a safe bet for the maximum effect. Here at Chanel and Jean Paul Gaultier
Coup de coeur
One of my favourite collection was the Dior Couture show, always love how creative director’s Maria Grazia Chiuri reinvents femininity and powerful statements. Here surrealism, artist Leonor Fini and contemporary art are the main sources of inspiration. I particularly love the masks which add a touch of mystery and provocation.
