My life in black

Lately I’ve been trying to avoid buying too much black and overall the black total look, but I’m just loving a couple of black outfits that I find so inspiring. The monochrome colour can be reinterpreted in so many ways without being too conventional, sad or (more…)

Imagine…

carré-noir

There is no word or image to describe the tragedy. Over the last two days I felt chocked, angry, sad, scared, terrified in front of such intolerance and barbary, this is the world we live in, but too much is too much. Some words from John Lennon’s song “Imagine” to meditate.

Imagine there’s no heaven
It’s easy if you try
No hell below us
Above us only sky
Imagine all the people
Living for today…

Imagine there’s no countries
It isn’t hard to do
Nothing to kill or die for
And no religion too
Imagine all the people
Living life in peace…

You may say I’m a dreamer
But I’m not the only one
I hope someday you’ll join us
And the world will be as one

Imagine no possessions
I wonder if you can
No need for greed or hunger
A brotherhood of man
Imagine all the people
Sharing all the world…

You may say I’m a dreamer
But I’m not the only one
I hope someday you’ll join us
And the world will live as one

Je suis Charlie.

For the first time I attended the Lagos Fashion & Design week, sponsored by GT Bank, Fayrouz and Maybelline who also handled the make up and hair backstage. The designers  I knew already did not deceived, and proved they were on their way to conquer the world like Tiffany Amber, Maki Oh, Lisa Folawiyo (previously known as Jewel by Lisa) or Lanre Da Silva. Spring Summer 2015 Fashion Week Recap

This fashion week season was full of exciting things as usual, I thought it will be fun to relate what I liked and disliked about it!

Spring 15 Paris: One designer one look

Here is my recap for Paris Collections, there is so much to say but I just selected the most striking moments for me. First, Givenchy was my favourite show. I’m crazy about tight over the knee boots so when combined to leather laced up the result is just spectacular, plus the pairing with the warrior princess dresses and sexy black jumpsuits is to die for! I’m really starting to be into the Hedi Slimane revamping of the Saint Laurent house. In this particular collection there was a certain nostalgia of 70’s rock glam groupies hanging out on L.A’s Sunset strip, oh and don’t get me started on those hats and platform shoes… Dries Van Noten collection made me think of fabrics brought back from a trip to India but chosen with a lot of delicacy. The silhouette was flowy, with a rich palette of organza, brocades, satin colours and patterns. I felt at peace when looking at those feather weight silk chiffon tanks, dresses and silk pyjamas pants, pure happiness. The new Paris sensation, Jacquemus, is most definitely one to watch. I believe it’s only his second or third season showing but we already get a good sense of who the Jacquemus girl is. She ‘s a “Femme enfant”, who is not conscious of her sensuality  and the power she has on others. The looks I like the most were the big stripes structured biais skirts worn with bikini tops over men’s white shirts. One of the other highlight of Paris week was Jean Paul Gaultier presenting his last ready to wear collection, the show was full of references: Miss France committee former chairman, Genevieve De Fontenay, soccer players wives, mexican wrestlers, famous fashion editors, elderly women turned beauty pageant queens, like we say in French it was a grand “n’importe quoi” (meaning a big mess) and that’s probably where reside his genius. When you are Jean Paul Gaultier, one of the most influential and avant garde designer of his generation, and it’s your last collection I guess you can afford to do whatever the hell you want!

SPRING 15 MILAN: ONE LOOK ONE DESIGNER

Milan fashion week was quite exciting this year, it’s also one of the most expected with it’s talented roster of designers. Dolce and Gabbana continues to surf on the baroque, embellishment trend. This time the Italian sexy “mama” goes to Spain, the collection was dense, beautiful with pop of red, black, gold and ton of precious accessories. Gucci’s Creative Director Frida Giannini is known for digging in the house 60’s, 70’s archives looks to reinterpret them for the modern woman so we could be a little bit over it, but she succeeds to present a  fresh, modern and yet very Charlie’s Angels collection, with tons of denim! Moschino paid tribute to the world favourite doll, Barbie,  showing how fashion should be fun and not too serious, Dsquared2 also offered a joyful collection, one of the most interesting one in my opinion…

Spring 15 London: One designer one look

The big winner of London fashion week has to be Burberry. I loved how the collection was so casual (compare to what we are used to) but still detail oriented with those delicate sheer tulle skirts and dresses for example, worn with  denim shearling jackets (Hello the 90’s) and sneakers. Yet the Burberry DNA was still very present so bravo! As for Tom Ford, I’m thorned. I liked the collection because it was rock glam, I loved the Bowie and Debbie Harry vibe, but also Joan Jett in the look. What threw me a bit off was that most of the silhouettes reminded me of Saint Laurent by Hedi Slimane for some reason. Tom ford is one of my favourite but I wasn’t dazzled this time…

Spring 15 New York: One designer One look

Here is a selection of my favourite designers showing during NY fashion week. I have selected for each collection one look that I liked but the choice was tough as for most of them, I just loved the entire collection! So just consider this as a tiny sample of my best looks. The 70’s are back (again) everything gypsy, hippie and tribute to rock stars, I just can’t resist! It already started in New York with Tommy Hilfiger, Anna Sui and their Woodstock girl, or Honor who offered a romantic version of the era, think Virgin Suicides… The phenomenon is  spreading in London and Milan in the streets but also on the runway, stay tuned!

Summer hair: the pixie

The short hair are having a moment, many celebrities took the plunge and went pixie. The right inspiration for 2014 being Kate Moss, Revenge  TV series actress Karine Vanasse or Mia Farrow’s cuts. Among my today’s favourite are Charlize Theron who is even sexier than before, Miley Cyrus for the girly punk attitude and the way she plays with her hair, and Lupita Nyong’o who breaks the routine by embellishing her style with strass headbands and other jewels. Even if we suspect a photoshop trick Brazilian top model Gisele Bundchen, famous for her beach blond look, went shorty for the last Balenciaga ad campaign. If you have always wanted to adopt short hair, now seems like the right time!

In the heat

There is a 1000 ways to dress on the beach or by the swimming pool, I even want to say all is permit! Almost. City dressing mixed with swimwear, lingerie or the cult cut out jeans, the rules are blurred for our greatest pleasure, being on vacation has never been sexier! Boho c’est chic !

Right now all I want is to adopt the boho attitude: long hippie dresses, caftans, accumulation of gypsy and ethnic jewellery or accessories, henne tattoos, over the top puffy curly hair, big lashes, baby doll make up (think character Megan Draper in season 7 of Mad Men) etc.. My all time favourites are the sophisticated Marisa Berenson, 60’s model Veruschka for her savage rebel beauty, or the crazy beautiful Donyale Luna. Each of them, in their own way embody the boho chic style…

Summer hair: Make some Waves

During the Summer we can finally let go of the high maintenance hair, beach waves stay the easiest style to adopt: if your hair don’t get wavy when being wet you can braid them before getting into the water, then let them off to have the messy natural effect. At night for a dressy cocktail, you just can’t go wrong with old school waves a la Veronica Lake by using big rolls and a good flat brush, follow the inspiration below!
