To watch: Yara Shahidi

She’s barely 17 but Yara Shahidi is one of the most promising talent of her generation. Even though she has been acting since a very young age and modelling, it’s the hit show Black-ish that putted her on the map. In addition of having a very strong sense of style, Yara who’s half Iranian and half black, is a fervent activist and don’t hesitate to get involved and elevate her voice about sensitive topics such as the controversial U.S immigration law best known as the “Muslim ban” or authorities violences against the black community among other causes. She was recently chosen as the new face of Beyonce’s athleisure brand, Ivy Park, and was featured in Vanity’s Fair 12 under 25 actors to know. We predict a long and fruitful career to this young lady.

Kylie Jenner better watch her back, a new edgy millennial is about to become the new sensation. With her deep blue eyes, peroxide hair, multiple tatoos and close to perfect features, Paris Jackson has been seen front row of major fashion shows and was Raf Simon’s (newly appointed Calvin Klein’s Creative Director) date for the Met Gala early this month. Shortly after, it was announced that she will be the new face for the Calvin Klein’s campaign. At 19 the daughter of late superstar Michael Jackson and Debbie Rowe, aspire to be an actress and model (she was signed by IMG models) and we have no doubt she is definitely on a good path!

3 Black models who are changing the game

Model Winnie Harlow for ELLE Canada February 17 issue

If there are three black models you should know, it will be Ebonee Davis, Winnie Harlow and Adwoa Aboah. These women are among the most watched models in the closeted fashion world, and they are here to stay. As being drop dead gorgeous was not enough, each of them has became true spokespersons of their generation about women condition, black pride or just being different in a still very discriminating society. Oh, and the three of them recently cut their hair to grow their natural texture, maybe it’s because I recently cut also mine but I’m just so proud and excited to feature these strong personalities, showing that something major is happening in the industry.

Model Ebonee Davis

Ebonee wrote an opened letter in Harpers Bazaar describing the constant discrimination and undermining treatment reserved to the few black models in the industry. A demonstration of courage and determination for the model who appeared in a Fall 2016 Calvin Klein ad campaign. And she’s not about to slow down, she actually just gave a highly watched TED Talk

You probably saw her in countless ad campaigns such as H&M, Aldo, Alexander Wang or editorials in Vogue, I-D Magazine, Adwoa has became a favourite of brands with her almost punk rock looks and freckles. The half Ghanaian model is also the founder of the “Gurls Talk Project” a platform that aims to encourage girls and women to speak out about their issues and subjects related to them within schools.

Model Winnie Harlow

I already featured Winnie aka Chantelle Brown HERE, two years ago I think it was just after her season in America Next Top Model. I was stricken by her beauty and the incredible energy that emanates from her.  She has a skin condition called vitiligo explaining the big irregularities of her skin tone. Despite her difference, she has been working non stop: for Diesel and Desigual campaigns and recently she appears in Beyonce’s Lemonade film album.

Why I love Tracee Ellis Ross

Actress Tracee Ellis Ross
Actress Tracee Ellis Ross

Until she played Rainbow Johnson on hit TV show, Black.ish, Tracee Ellis Ross was just a another pretty actress, daughter of, which starred in this show called Girlfriends in the early 2000’s. Over the years I learned to really like her, mostly because of her character in Black.ish which I have the feeling is not too far from the real person: bubbly, smart, stylish, and incredibly appealing, a made to mesure role. Then there is her personality or at least what she shows through her Instagram account, she’s often goofy and, yes that might be weird to say but she actually smiles a lot (let’s be honest we all tend to try so hard to be cool these days on Insta pictures that we avoid smiling)! Despite her prestigious pedigree: her mother is the iconic Diana Ross and her dad a business music manager, Robert Ellis Silberstein, her brother Evan Ross is also an actor and musician, Tracee keeps it real and almost makes you feel you will have the best time in her company. She has style and obviously knows fashion without doing to much or trying to be someone she isn’t. Younger women can easily relate to Tracee who is intentionally or not a real role model and inspiration. Last but not least, I’m slightly obsessed with her hair and I’m sure I’m not the only one! This woman is simply a fresh bowl of air in a very formatted show business environment.

In the bombshells models roster we had Lara stone or Kate Upton, meet the new recruit, Gigi Hadid marking a new era in the modelling world. The 19 years old model is one of the most “en vue” girl of the fashion sphere along with her industry best pals, Kendall Jenner and (more…)

To watch: Chantelle Brown

ANTM cycle 21 contestant Chantelle Brown

Chantelle Brown will be one of the contestant in the next American Next Top Model  this Summer hosted by Tyra Banks. Her particularity? She has a skin pigmentation condition called Vitiligo all over her body. When this situation could be a real handicap in everyday’s life especially in the beauty world, Chantelle is a serious competitor and already creating the buzz before the season even started. We can’t wait to see how she will shine in the show, even if she doesn’t make it until the end, Chantelle already won by proving that difference is beautiful…

Kendall Jenner

Kendall Jenner made some buzz during this fashion week season. She walked for the biggest houses: Chanel, Givenchy and Marc Jacobs. Who would have said one of the member of the Kardashian tribe could be taken seriously enough to be accepted in the  very selective world of high fashion ? Let’s hope it’s the beginning of a successful modelling career (Kendall is represented by Elite) and not just a publicity stunt due to her famous big sister Kim Kardashian and boyfriend superstar Kanye West.

Lupita Nyong’o

There is a new “it girl” in the place, everybody can’t stop talking about Lupita. First she is beautiful, second she’s smart and third she’s co starring in Steve Mc Queen Oscar worthy last movie, 12 Years a Slave, with Brad Bitt, Chiwetel Ejifor and Michael Fassbender, not bad for a beginning… Born in Mexico, the Kenyan actress studied acting in Yale and played in various stage productions, but also wrote, produced and directed In My Genes a documentary about Kenya’s Albino population. From Chanel to Miu Miu designers have only one envy, it is to dress Lupita we can’t wait for the Award season!

Spanish model Dalianah Arekion is one of my favorite girl of the moment. Her magnetic eyes and androgynous beauty have seduced fashion big names: she opened the Fall 13 Givenchy show and is in their Resort 14 collection look book, she was also featured in the June issue of Teen Vogue among others. Next fashion week should be a big season for Dalianah and we can’t wait!

Fashion week girl

Bette Franke is without any doubt the girl of this Fall Fashion Week, she is also for me the ideal model: pretty, natural, thin but with harmonious curves, able to morph from innocent looking to sexy amazon. The Dutch model has been spotted at almost every single show this season (Tom Ford, Oscar De La Renta, Marni, Versace and the list goes on and on), and is the face of several prestigious Spring Summer ad campaigns (Bottega Veneta, Miu Miu, Hermes, See by Chloe fragrance…)

Who’s that girl?

The first thing I thought when I came across this picture is, how come I don’t know this girl? She has a very special beauty and striking features but I never saw her before and then I thought if Vogue US is doing a full page portrait of her she must be kind of famous. I discovered that her name is Amber and she is one of the daughter of Duran Duran lead singer Simon and top model Yasmine Le Bon (thanks Wikipedia!). With this type of genes no wonder Amber is so beautiful!

To watch: Alicia Vikander

The Swedish actress Alicia Vikander plays Kitty in the 2012 adaptation of Anna Karenina (with Keira Knightley in the lead role) and really steals the attention every time she appears on the screen. Her juvenile yet sensual beauty and touching acting make her undoubtedly one of the young actress to watch. Can’t wait to see what would be next for the pretty Alicia!

Baby Doll

Kate Upton is the latest obsession of men, her voluptuous curves and angel face are everywhere from Sports Illustrated, to Victoria’s Secret or high fashion books such as Vogue US or CR Magazine. The young ambitious American bombshell is determined to make her place in the elitist top models world.

To watch: Rose Lewis

Rose Lewis is a New York dancer which has been discovered by the famous photographer Bruce Weber. Rose is simply a gorgeous creature, the imaginary child of Grace Jones and Naomi Campbell. She was lately shot by Bruce for Vman and the Opening Ceremony newly launched magazine. Something tells me we will be seeing Rose a lot in fashion publications and other projects…

Elle a tout Bon Charlotte

Charlotte Le Bon is originally from Canada, Quebec, but she is one of the most regarded young actress in France right now. Charlotte is known for her incredible sense of humor (she used to present the weather forecast always in a unexpected hilarious way for  “le Grand Journal”, a popular talk show in France). Here she poses for Glamour France September issue. Pretty and funny, she’s just the perfect girl!

To Watch: Julianne Hough

Julianne Hough is the typical representation of the American “Girl next door”,  at least that’s what I thought until I saw the remake of 80’s flick, Footloose, (yes I admit I saw it twice, but on TV!). I started to like her and think maybe she’s more than that, there is actually an interesting duality in Julianne: in addition of being pretty, she’s candid and strong at the same time. No wonder why the successful TV Producer Ryan Seacrest fell under her charm… Most Recently she played in Rock of Ages also starring Tom Cruise.
Here’s a shoot she did for Interview Magazine which I love, first because it’s in black and white and second because anything related to the ballerina world is always beautiful which perfectly suits Julianne!

To Watch: Jessica Pare

Jessica Pare is the new lady of the hit AMC TV Show, Mad Men. Jessica plays Megan the joyful and sometimes vulnerable new wife of main character, Don Draper. Jessica is Canadian and have appeared in a few movies and series but it’s her role in Mad Men that will reveal her to the public.
When I saw these pictures published on Elle.com (complete feature here), I’ve realized how multi faceted Jessica can be. Here she looks sharp, modern, strong far away from the “girly” attitude of her character. I guess the only distinctive sign among Jessica’s plural faces is her sexy bombshell aura
